Spring Blues
Sparklehorse: Saturday (4.5 mb) | Sparklehorse_MP3 (107.0 mb) | Sparklehorse_Flac (356.0 mb)
From Live At KB : Nov 2nd, 2006 : Malmo, Sweden

We’ve been having a ton of unusual spring weather recently. Days of 50 degree weather, followed by days of dark, dreary, snowy times. The dark, dreary times are perfectly accompanied by this band, Sparklehorse. I’ve been a fan of this band since I first heard their cracked take on American music back in 1995. Filled with creaks, groans and distortions, lead man, Mark Linkous, has an amazingly gothic and surrealistic vision that he vets out in his home studio.
So, what we have here is a wonderfully recorded performance of Sparklehorse, who are in ultra-fine form. They run the gamut from the loud, abrasive rockers to the quietly crackling intimate songs. Great stuff, indeed.

thanks! sparklehorse kind of seem like they wouldn’t be all that exciting live, but the times i’ve seen them, they’ve been pretty gripping. Linkous doesn’t do that much, but in his own way he’s a really good performer.

Thanks for the post. First time I saw Linkous & Co. was at a SXSW showcase during the 90s that also featured Flaming Lips (playing all of ‘The Soft Bulletin’ about 6 months before it came out), Mercury Rev, Grandaddy and this underrated German power pop band called Miles. Truly one of the most transporting nights of music I’ve experienced. Also worth checking out is ‘A Loose Confederation of Saturday City States’, a collaboration between Linkous, Vic Chestnutt, David Lowery and Lambchop. I think they only released a 7″, which is now pretty hard to find. I remember it from my college radio days!
