MV and EE with The Bummer Road

Ugh. We’ve finally hit the dog days of summer here in the Midwest and I’m absolutely hating it. 90+ degree days and high humidity combine to make me one big stinking, sweaty, pissed off mess. Sometimes it’s all I can do to stay civilized and semi-sane. The one shining light in all of this is, as always, the music. Specifically, the spectral sounds transmitted by MV and EE. Their music is the perfect soundtrack to the hazy days of summer.

If you’ve read this blog before, than you’ve probably realized that these two folks are some of my favorite musicians ever (look here and here). I finally got the chance to see them play a couple of months ago and I’ll have to say that while it was an excellent show, it kind of fell short of expectations. The problem was that I just wasn’t in the right frame of mind for it. They had just released a massive album with their new band, The Bummer Road and I was wanting to hear the full freak out band. Instead, it was the two of them doing more introspective material. Like I said, it was great, just not what I was wanting to hear.

This album, a collection of live cuts from 2006, features the full Bummer Road band and is exactly what the doctor ordered. We’ve got MV, EE, Nemo and Willie ‘Moonflower’ Lane all on guitars, Samara on violin, Sparrow on flute and Mo’ Jiggs on the harmonica, all creating some of the most deliciously hazy sounds ever.
