I’ve been sitting here, racking my brain, trying to come up with a write up worthy of this band, and am failing miserably. In fact, I don’t think that this band, Suicide, really needs any description at all. But rather, the audience needs a warning about what they’re getting into when they start to listen to them. I mean it all sounds so benign, with a band line-up of Alan Vega on vocals and Martin Rev on synths and drum machines. But you definitely need to let go of any preconceptions of what a vocal/synth and drum machine band could sound like. Released in 1978, this album still sounds revolutionary and their apocalyptic sound still blows my mind everytime I listen to it.

I heard about this group in some documentary and have yet to get this album. I’ve been dying to listen to it. May need more mp3s, *hint, hint*

“Failing miserably” indeed… You humiliate yourself every time you post laughably overrated shit like this and Spacemen 3. When the hip old music critics say jump, you say “how high?” There’s a reason why this “band” was booed off the stage by savvy underground music fans of the 70’s. But hey, that very fact makes revisionary historians label them challenging and “revolutionary.” You could have at least posted Vega’s great single “Saturn Drive” from ‘83 rather than the predictable pair you chose. Keep racking that brain.

I’m not sure where all this animosity is coming from. I’ve never claimed to be an expert in music. I’ve never claimed to be THE authority in any of this. I don’t get paid for this. And you’re totally right, just because Suicide were “booed off the stage” must mean that they were horrible. Just like when people tried to boo Dylan off the stage when he went electric. He must’ve totally sucked. No great performer or musician or artist has ever been booed at, ever. They find total acceptance wherever they go.
So, since you’re the expert in all things music, maybe you could forward me a list of lol approved musicians/performers, so that I won’t “humiliate myself” anymore. Or maybe you can post a link to the totally awesome music blog that you run so that I can learn more about what the “savvy underground music fans of the 70’s” were digging. Or maybe you can show me your post about “Vega’s great single “Saturn Drive” from ‘83″ so that I can hear for myself just how much of an idiot I am.

For what it’s worth, I’ve always thought that you’ve had some of the most interesting stuff up. I generally enjoy your posts. As for the Belgium incident, I think this had a lot more to do with the constant taunting that Alan Vega offered the crowd more than anything else. Actually, if you here the show, they sound pretty good. The part where the microphone gets stolen is pretty hilarious. Don’t mess with the Belgians, they’ll steal your microphone and won’t return it!!!
