From Deep Soul Treasures - Vol 2 : Kent Soul : cdkend158

Thanks to some holiday money I received from my parents, I went on a little shopping spree at my new favorite store, Dusty Groove. This store not only carries a great selection of soul and funk, but their prices are often times cheaper than I’ve seen at other stores. This trip turned up a compilation series that I’ve been meaning to check out for a long time. I’ve been reading all about this series and by all accounts, Dave Godin’s Deep Soul Treasures series is the gold standard by which all other soul comps are judged. And I can hear why. But don’t take my word for it, take a listen to these soul stunners.
Not being a very informed soul enthusiast, I had no idea the impact that Dave Godin (RIP) has had on this genre. He was a true visionary in the field, coining the terms: Northern Soul and Deep Soul. And as one of the best soul journalists, Godin championed music that no one else was ready to hear.
I have this belief that given enough time, truly worthwhile cultural artefacts, even if they were totally overlooked or ignored when first created and launched, will eventually come to be recognized as valuable contributions to human understanding and enrichment. And the incredible success of the first volume in this series not only came as an unexpected but welcome surprise, but proof of my contention that quality will [win] out.
It might well be that in the last analysis, Deep Soul has more to do with attitude than it has to do with musical styles and structures, which might just be the means by which such an attitude has to clothe itself in order to convey its deeper and more potent message! The message my sound fervent, but that is because the things that really matter in life always have to be affirmed with conviction. And Soul.
(Dave Godin)
