* sir richard bishop: burning caravan (2.5 mb) | al-darazi (13.5 mb) | morella (4.5 mb)
from salvador kali : revenant records : 102

sir richard bishop is an atmospherist supreme. he is able to conjur incredible images simply by playing the guitar or the piano. he needs little to no extra accompaniment, but rather relys on his own playing to get his ideas across. i got this album when i was living in brunswick, me and it was absolutely perfect. there were many a nights spent listening to this album while driving the dark, winding backroads of maine. it was a great soundtrack for my adventures.
most of this album is improvised with sir richard on guitar, but for one track, which happens to be my absolute favorite on this album, he sits down at the piano. and what he may lack in technical ability he more than makes up for it with feeling. it’s a marvelously dark piece with moorish overtones.
i would also suggest looking at the rest of the revenant records catalog. their attention to detail is mind boggling. for perfect examples of how to put a box set together, check out their newly released albert ayler box set, or their charley patton one. amazing work.

The Sun City Girls are a genre bending trio that have been blowing minds for over twenty years now. They’ve explored every type of music from psychedelic to ethnic to pop to vaudevile. [...]
