* sly and the family stone: dance to the music/music lover | life | sing a simple song
from thee thesaurus of funkasaurus : disk 1

earlier this week in chicago was kinda nasty. we had a bunch of cold, freezing rain. today was a huge change, though. it was a glorious day. the sun was shining and the air was crisp. the weather can play a big factor in what kind of music i want to listen to. and on a day like today, i just wanna listen to the funky sounds of sly and the family stone. back in the late 60’s they were revolutionary. the line up was both racially and sexually mixed and the music reflects that. they mixed funk/soul/rock/psych into one glorious sound. as time progressed though, sly became mired in drug use and the excesses of that generation. this had unfortunate consequences on his mental stability and musical ability. but when they were on, they blew doors off.

these tracks are from an incredible 2cd compilation put out by the big fro label. this comp is mostly live tv appearances from ‘68 - ‘83. so, look forward to more songs from the second disk along with tracks from their second sly and the family stone bootleg.
